Bambutsu-shisei 2022

2022 marks the 150th anniversary of Shiseido, and 120th anniversary of Shiseido Parlor.
The name Shiseido is derived from a passage in the classic Chinese text I Ching: "Praise the virtues of the great Earth, which nurtures new life and brings forth new values." This name expresses respect for the earth and everything on it.
For the 2022 New Year window display, we created a window display to express our hopes for a new beginning and a beautiful future. The golden ratio motif represents the aesthetic of all things living.
Shiseido believes in the power of beauty to open up a beautiful new era.

"To express “banbutsu shisei,” we used minerals that have been around since the dawn of time. This minerals represent the colors of the earth and the source of all things living. By carefully crushing and refining these minerals, we were left with a powder that gently glows in the light.

Hand-woven metal objects were also arranged into the golden ratio, which has always been present in nature, humanity and art. It represents the ultimate and most natural form of beauty."
