2022 marks the 150th anniversary of Shiseido and the 120th anniversary of Shiseido Parlor. To celebrate these milestones, we revisited the meaning of the name “Shiseido” and created a unique window display in its honor.
The display is inspired by a passage from I ching, which reads “praise the virtues of the Earth, which nurtures new life and brings forth significant values."
Huge geological formations rotate slowly over the course of a day, displaying the natural shapes and textures formed over millions of years. As the light changes throughout the day, the formations seem to come to life.
The rock surfaces were obtained using a preservation technique called "tangential exfoliation."
Six small windows were decorated with works by Mineko Kato, chief-pastry chef of the "FARO."
These works, titled "Memory of Carved Fragrance," imagine and express the scents and landscapes etched in each layer of the earth.
