Since its opening in 1925, Shimbashi Enbujo has continued to enchant countless people who love the performing arts. To celebrate its centennial and the memorable performance “The 100th Azuma Odori,” which led to the theater’s founding, Shiseido presented the stage curtain Mai, created by Shiseido Creative.

The choreography by Onoue Kikunojo IV, head of the Onoue school, and the graceful movements of Kabuki actor Hayato Nakamura were captured with motion-capture cameras. The curves drawn from these movements—where the timeless beauty of Japanese tradition meets modern technology—were transformed into crimson threads, woven with textile artistry into a work of art that transcends eras.

The curtain embodies Shiseido’s gratitude and respect for Ginza, its birthplace, and for Japan’s theatrical culture, while expressing a wish for a flourishing cultural future. Mai was unveiled on May 21 at the 100th Azuma Odori.
