As a new initiative to connect with the LGBTQ+ community, we became the first in the world to turn the traditional late-night TV color bars—usually shown when broadcasting is off-air—into a platform for communication.
We created a film that transforms these quiet, late-night hours into a “Rainbow Time” that celebrates diversity. Familiar test screens suddenly come to life—moving, shifting, and delivering messages. Using a groundbreaking video technique that expresses 8.1 billion colors—the same number as the global population—we visualized a world where every individual's unique color comes together.
The film aired during late-night hours in June 2024 to show support for Pride Month, in collaboration with TV Tokyo, regional stations, and large outdoor screens in Shibuya, as part of a surprise guerrilla campaign.
By bringing unexpected moments to an ordinary screen, we hope to inspire viewers to reflect on the beauty of diversity.
With the support of our partner companies, we took on the challenge of expressing 8.1 billion colors within the video content. We combined this with six powerful messages that celebrate diversity, sharing our support as Shiseido.
